Bee Generous Mural

A Celebration of Spirit, Service, and Sacred Beauty

Nestled in the heart of Flagstaff’s Sunnyside neighborhood, the Bee Generous mural graces the exterior of Cedar Closet with vibrant color and deep meaning. Created by local artist Joel Geist—known to many as Red Frog —this stunning work of public art is more than a visual landmark; it’s a living tribute to generosity, connection, and the transformative power of volunteerism.

At its center stands the ancient Tree of Life, its branches reaching skyward in a graceful dance of balance and renewal. Rooted in sacred traditions across cultures, the tree symbolizes the harmony between heaven, earth, and humanity. It evokes Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, reminding us of the quiet strength found in selfless giving.

Surrounding the tree, busy bees hum with purpose—symbols of hard work, care, and community. Their joyful flight mirrors the spirit of Cedar Closet’s volunteers, whose dedication fuels nine philanthropic programs and touches thousands of lives each year.

The mural’s floral centerpiece is composed of 19 overlapping circles, a nod to ancient Sacred Geometry. These patterns—found in snowflakes, seashells, and galaxies—reflect the interconnectedness of all things. Spirals sweep across the mural’s left side, echoing the Divine Proportions celebrated by Leonardo da Vinci and found in nature’s most elegant designs.

Every brushstroke carries the soulful energy of its creator. Geist’s spiritual approach infuses the mural with warmth and wonder, capturing the essence of Sunnyside and the heart of Cedar Closet. His trademark, Red Frog, tucked subtly into the design, is a playful reminder of the artist’s presence and the joy of discovery.

More than a mural, Bee Generous is a beacon—a colorful invitation to step inside, connect, and contribute. It welcomes all who pass by, offering beauty, meaning, and a gentle reminder: generosity is the root of community.
